For hundreds of years Mother Nature has used fire as a means of renewing herself. It’s her way of cleaning
up the forest floors and opening the canopies.  This decreases the competition of species and provides new
grass, plants and trees the ability to regenerate, providing for a healthier ecosystem.  There is a great
danger of loss of property and loss of life with the urban sprawl encroaching on our wilderness and forested
grounds. This is what is termed the "wildland/urban interface".  In recent years we have watched the news
media turn fire into our enemy.  Fire is a natural part of our landscape and ecosystem.   We have  just put
ourselves in harm's way, and the millions of dollars in losses we have experienced are due to us building in
areas that are prone to wildland fires.  In these areas often times we cannot rely on our fire departments to
save our homes unless we make the effort to make them defendable and able to survive a wildfire event
without human intervention.  Access roads, slope aspects, fuel loads, availability of water, humidity and
weather conditions can easily over power our firefighters and make a situation extremely dangerous.  It's
time for home owners to take action!  Years of fire suppression and environmentalist action against logging
has created densely over grown forests.   If we don't maintain our forests and wildland areas mother nature
will!  We are on the verge of a pine beetle epidemic and with that will come increased fire starts and larger
catastrophic fires.  With a little thought, and some hard work these losses can be minimized through proper
planning, construction, landscaping and maintenance.  Fireline's mission is to educate and implement fire-
safe principles to reduce the risk of fire.  We can make living in the wildland urban interface safer and more
enjoyable and reduce the risk of these catastrophic fires.  For more information please click on the fire links

have.
